Modern Future defeated Pyramids 14-13 in a tense penalty shootout after 34 penalty kicks, following a 0-0 draw in the Egyptian Super Cup semi-final on Monday.
Modern Future, who will play against either Al Ahly or Ceramica Cleopatra, missed three penalty kicks in the Egyptian Super Cup Semi-final, while Pyramids also lost the match after failing to convert a fourth penalty at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Osama Galal, a defender for Pyramids, missed two penalties, including the one that ultimately secured the win for Future after 34 penalty kicks from both sides.
Despite feeling like the shootout lasted a long time, it was far fewer than the 54 penalties taken in a local cup match in England last year when Washington FC defeated Bedlington Terriers 25-24.
In a 2005 Namibian Cup game, there were a total of 48 penalties during the match between KK Palace and Civics.
