Rennes Midfielder Nemanja Matic Absent from Training Without Permission

Rennes released a statement on Thursday expressing disapproval of Nemanja Matic’s actions, as the Serbian midfielder failed to attend training without authorization.

Nemanja Matic transferred to the Ligue 1 team in August of the previous year from AS Roma, where he had spent one season. Before that, he had played for Manchester United and Chelsea. This season, he has appeared in 19 matches for Rennes.

“Rennes midfielder Nemanja Matic has failed to turn up for the most recent training sessions with the professional team,” the club statement said.

“This behaviour is totally incomprehensible from an experienced player under contract until 2025.”

French media outlets have stated that Matic departed the city in an attempt to pressure the club into allowing him to leave.

“Always concerned by the well-being of its players, the club would like to point out that all the arrangements necessary for the successful integration of Nemanja Matic and his entourage have been carried out in complete transparency,” the club added.

“SRFC is now awaiting the player’s explanations and is determined to take all necessary measures to protect its interests.”

Rennes are currently in 10th place in the Ligue 1 standings and will be hosting Nice on Saturday.
