NBA Roundup: Golden State Warriors secure a narrow victory over the Blazers despite Steph Curry’s subpar performance

Klay Thompson contributed 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting to help the Golden State Warriors secure a win against Portland. Meanwhile, Stephen Curry, the star player, only scored seven points and failed to make any of his eight three-point attempts, ending his NBA record of 268 consecutive games with at least one three-pointer.

Andrew Wiggins also made a significant impact off the bench with 25 points on nine-of-12 shooting, as the Golden State Warriors achieved consecutive victories for the first time since November 1-3. Portland’s Jerami Grant contributed 30 points in their seventh consecutive loss, while Anfernee Simons scored 24 points following a scoreless first half.

Boston Celtics 114, Orlando Magic 97

Jaylen Brown had a strong finish, scoring 31 points to help the Boston Celtics secure a 114-97 win against the Orlando Magic. The Celtics have now won their first 14 home games of the season, making them only the second team in franchise history to achieve this. The 1957-58 Celtics also had a strong start, winning 18 consecutive home games.

Brown scored 17 of his points in the fourth quarter and made 12 of 20 field goal attempts. Jayson Tatum contributed 23 points and eight rebounds, while Kristaps Porzingis added 15 points and 10 boards for Boston. Paolo Banchero led the Magic with 36 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Orlando suffered their second loss to the Celtics in three days, following a 128-111 defeat on Friday.

Suns 112, Wizards 108

Phoenix overcame a 16-point disadvantage and scored 31-19 in the final quarter to secure a victory against Washington. Devin Booker contributed 11 of his 27 points in the last period, shooting four of six from the field and sparking Phoenix’s offensive comeback. The Suns’ defense limited Washington to seven-of-27 shooting in the quarter, allowing Phoenix to turn the game around and take the lead. Kevin Durant led the game with 28 points, while Daniel Gafford had a standout performance, achieving personal bests of 26 points and 17 rebounds for Washington.

Pelicans 146, Spurs 110

CJ McCollum led the way with 29 points and made six of his seven three-point attempts as New Orleans set a new franchise record for three-pointers and easily defeated San Antonio.

The team made a franchise-best 22 three-pointers out of 42 attempts, securing their fourth consecutive win of the season. Brandon Ingram contributed 26 points, while Jose Alvarado scored 16 and Jonas Valanciunas added 15 points and 16 rebounds. San Antonio struggled and suffered their 19th loss in the last 20 games, following their team-high 18-game losing streak with a win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Victor Wembanyama led San Antonio with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks.

Bucks 128, Rockets 119

Milwaukee secured their fourth consecutive victory by defeating Houston at home, with Damian Lillard contributing 39 points and 11 assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo also had a strong performance with 26 points and 17 rebounds, while Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez added 20 and 18 points, respectively. The Bucks shot 50% from the field and ended the Rockets’ five-game winning streak. Fred VanVleet led Houston with 22 points, and Alperen Sengun recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Despite trailing by as much as 14 points in the third quarter, Houston managed to reduce the deficit to 118-113, but ultimately couldn’t overtake Milwaukee.
