NBA Roundup: Cavaliers come back to defeat 76ers in overtime

Darius Garland put up 32 points, while Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley both achieved double-doubles as the Cleveland Cavaliers narrowly held on to a win against the Philadelphia 76ers in an NBA in-season tournament game, despite squandering an 18-point lead. The Cavaliers emerged victorious with a 122-119 overtime win on Tuesday night.

Cleveland’s win extended their winning streak to four games and improved their record to 2-1 in East Group A action in the in-season tournament. The victory came after Philadelphia made a comeback from an 18-point deficit to take a 110-108 lead, but Cavaliers forced overtime with Garland’s free throws with 13.1 seconds remaining.

Allen scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Mobley contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds. Max Strus, who made 5 out of 10 3-point attempts, finished with 20 points for the Cavaliers. Joel Embiid scored 32 points for the 76ers, and Tobias Harris added 23. Philadelphia’s record in the in-season tournament dropped to 2-2.

Pacers 157, Hawks 152

Tyrese Haliburton had a strong comeback after his lowest scoring game of the season, putting up 37 points to lead Indiana to a comeback victory over Atlanta. After scoring only 12 points in the previous game, Haliburton exploded for 26 points in the third quarter alone. Buddy Hield contributed 24 points, including a crucial 3-pointer that put the Pacers ahead 155-152. Despite Trae Young’s 38 points for Atlanta, Dejounte Murray’s missed layup in the final seconds sealed the win for Indiana.

Suns 120, Trail Blazers 107

Kevin Durant scored 31 points and dished out nine assists, while Devin Booker added 28 points as Phoenix defeated Portland in a home game. Durant, playing in his 1,000th career game, moved up to 11th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 27,331 points, surpassing Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes’ 27,313 points. Jerami Grant contributed 26 points for the Trail Blazers, who suffered their eighth consecutive loss. Deandre Ayton made his first appearance in Phoenix since being traded to Portland, scoring 18 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Magic 126, Raptors 107

Paolo Banchero led the way with 25 points as Orlando secured a victory over Toronto in an NBA in-season tournament game. Jalen Suggs also made a significant contribution with 18 points for the Magic, who are currently on a four-game winning streak. Franz Wagner scored 17 points, while Cole Anthony notched 15 points and 10 assists. Moritz Wagner and Gary Harris each added 10 points to the scoreboard. On the Raptors’ side, Dennis Schroder led with 24 points, followed by Pascal Siakam with 16 points and eight assists. Scottie Barnes contributed 14 points, OG Anunoby scored 11 points, and Jakob Poeltl recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Lakers 131, Jazz 99

Anthony Davis scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Los Angeles completed a perfect 4-0 record in the NBA in-season tournament’s group stage with a win over Utah. D’Angelo Russell added 20 points and eight assists, while LeBron James contributed 17 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds for the Lakers. In the opening quarter, James made history by becoming the first player to reach 39,000 points in the NBA. Off the bench, Omer Yurtseven scored 18 points, and John Collins led the Jazz’s starters with 15 points as they dropped to a 2-2 record in group play.
