NBA Recap: Lakers defeat Luka Doncic and the Mavericks

The Lakers defeated the Mavericks 127-110 in an NBA game on Wednesday, with Anthony Davis nearly achieving a triple-double with 30 points. The victory came as Luka Doncic returned from injury.

Davis scored 28 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out nine assists, while D’Angelo Russell contributed 29 points for the Lakers. They managed to hold off a triple-double performance from Luka Doncic, who had been sidelined for three games due to a sprained right ankle. Doncic recorded 33 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. However, Mavericks’ standout Kyrie Irving struggled, scoring only 12 points on four-of-16 shooting, and Dallas never took the lead after the first quarter.

Teams across the league held a moment of silence at their arenas to honor the memory of Dejan Milojevic, an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors who passed away in Salt Lake City after suffering a heart attack. The Warriors’ game against the Utah Jazz was postponed following the news, which Golden State coach Steve Kerr described as a “shocking and tragic blow” for the team and for Milojevic’s family. The 46-year-old Serbian had played and coached in Europe, where he had worked with several future NBA stars, including two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic.

Cleveland 135, Bucks 95

In Cleveland, the Cavaliers capitalized on the absence of Bucks’ star Giannis Antetokounmpo to secure their sixth consecutive victory. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 31 points, while Georges Niang scored a career-high 33 points and Jarrett Allen achieved his 10th consecutive double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The Bucks, missing Antetokounmpo due to a bruised shoulder, struggled as Damian Lillard led with 17 points and Khris Middleton had a tough night, scoring only two points after making one of 10 shots.

Celtics 117, Spurs 98

In Boston, the Celtics defeated the San Antonio team with a perfect home record of 20-0. Jayson Tatum scored 24 points, Jrue Holiday added 22, and Jaylen Brown returned from a one-game injury absence to score 21. The Celtics gave a tough welcome to San Antonio’s rookie star Victor Wembanyama in his first visit to the TD Garden arena, as he scored 27 points, with 10 of them coming in the first quarter. However, the Celtics pulled away relentlessly against the struggling Western Conference team.

Pelicans 132, Hornets 112

In New Orleans, Brandon Ingram achieved a triple-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, guiding the Pelicans to a 132-112 win against the Charlotte Hornets. Ingram set a career-high with seven three-pointers, while rookie guard Jordan Hawks contributed six, helping the Pelicans establish a franchise record with 25 three-pointers.

Hawks 106, Magic 104

Dejounte Murray hit a last-second jump shot to give the Hawks a 106-104 win over the Orlando Magic. Paolo Banchero of the Magic had tied the game at 104-104 with a three-pointer just 8.4 seconds before. Murray led the Hawks with 26 points, while Banchero led the Magic with the same amount in a closely contested game that saw 19 lead changes.
