NBA Recap: Devin Booker drops 46 as Suns defeat Mavericks

Devin Booker delivered another impressive scoring performance to lead the Suns to their seventh consecutive win in a dominant victory over the Mavericks on Wednesday.

Devin Booker, who had an impressive 52-point performance in a win against New Orleans last Friday, followed it up with a 46-point game in Phoenix’s 132-109 victory over the Mavericks in Texas. The skilled point guard made six of his ten three-point attempts and also contributed seven rebounds and three assists. Bradley Beal added 20 points, Grayson Allen scored 15, and Kevin Durant chipped in with 12 for the Suns. Luka Doncic led the scoring for Dallas with 34 points, including four three-pointers, but the Mavericks were disappointed by a second-half collapse after holding a 16-point lead in the second quarter.

Bucks 126, Cleveland 116

In another location on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Bucks demonstrated no indication of the internal struggles affecting the team as they easily defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 126-116. The NBA was surprised by Milwaukee’s sudden decision to dismiss head coach Griffin mid-season, despite the team having one of the best records in the league. Griffin is being replaced by former Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers.

Assistant Bucks coach Joe Prunty took over for Griffin and led the team to victory in Wednesday’s home game against the Cavs, who had previously beaten Milwaukee 135-95 and were on an eight-game winning streak. Prunty watched as Milwaukee’s star player Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a 35-point triple-double with 18 rebounds and 10 assists, propelling the Bucks to win. Damian Lillard also had an outstanding performance with 28 points, and Khris Middleton contributed 24. Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 23 points.

Timberwolves 118, Wizards 107

Meanwhile in Washington, the Minnesota Timberwolves bounced back from two consecutive losses with a 118-107 win against the Wizards. After a surprising 128-125 defeat to the Charlotte Hornets, where Karl-Anthony Towns scored 62 points in a losing effort, the Timberwolves secured a comfortable victory over the Wizards. Anthony Edwards led the team with 38 points, while Towns contributed 27 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Additionally, French player Rudy Gobert made a significant impact on defense with 16 rebounds.

Thunder 140, Spurs 114

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 32 points and dished out 10 assists in just three quarters of play as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the San Antonio Spurs 140-114. The Thunder’s Aaron Wiggins contributed 22 points off the bench, while Chet Holmgren added 17, Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace each scored 13, and Josh Giddey chipped in with 12 points. Oklahoma City shot 56.2 percent from the field and made 18 of their 40 3-point attempts. On the other side, Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Devin Vassell added 21 points. This loss marked the second consecutive setback for San Antonio.

Warriors 134, Hawks 112

Jonathan Kuminga equaled a team record by converting all 11 of his shots in a 25-point display, as the Golden State Warriors paid tribute to Dejan Milojevic with a dominant 134-112 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in San Francisco on Wednesday night. Stephen Curry contributed 25 points for Golden State, while Klay Thompson scored 24. Meanwhile, Dejounte Murray scored 23 points and Jalen Johnson added 21 for the Hawks, who suffered defeats in both games during their three-day Northern California trip, as Trae Young was absent due to a concussion.
