Premier League: Liverpool vs Wolves

Liverpool vs Wolves will take place at Anfield on Sunday at 3:00pm, as Jurgen Klopp aims to win his final game for the Reds. In a game where neither team has much at stake, all attention will be on the departing German as he leads the Reds for the final 90 minutes.

Klopp arrived at Anfield in October 2015 when the team was in need of a strong leader to bring back success. As he prepares to bid farewell in May 2024, he has fulfilled the promise he made in his initial press conference by winning three domestic cups, a sixth UEFA Champions League title, and most notably, ending Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a league title in 2019/20. While his final months as Liverpool’s manager may not have gone as hoped, his team is determined to give him a positive send-off, especially since Klopp has never lost on the last day of a Premier League season.

Wolves will be looking to disrupt the party, as they have only won one of their last ten games. The team may be lacking motivation, but a victory in their upcoming match, along with some favorable outcomes in other games, could potentially see them finish as high as tenth in the season standings. However, if results do not go their way, they could drop to 14th place, one spot lower than last season. Historically, they have struggled to earn points at Anfield, having avoided defeat in only five of their last 30 league visits.

Head-to-head

The Reds secured a 3-1 win in their earlier meeting at Molineux Stadium in September of the previous year. Prior to that match, Liverpool had won 32, drawn 6, and lost 10 out of the last 48 home games against Wolves.

Prediction

Both the Reds and Wolves have not been finishing the season as strongly as they would like, but Liverpool has not lost their final game at Anfield since 1989. Despite their defensive vulnerabilities, they are expected to continue this trend against a struggling Wolves team. This match could mark Klopp’s 299th victory before receiving tributes.
