Preview: Liverpool vs Brighton

Liverpool vs Brighton on Easter Sunday at 1pm at Anfield will give Roberto De Zerbi the chance to audition for the Liverpool job, as Klopp’s is set to leave at the end of the season. Liverpool have the opportunity to lift spirits by reclaiming the top spot in the league, if only temporarily, after their 1-1 draw with Man City before the international break.

With only ten Premier League matches left in Jürgen Klopp’s illustrious tenure at Liverpool, he is determined to make each one count as his team pursues their 20th English top-flight title. Despite losing their top spot after a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, a win against Brighton could see them temporarily reclaim the lead before City faces Arsenal.

The reds recently dominated in Europe with an 11-2 aggregate victory over Sparta Prague, but their hopes of a quadruple were dashed when they lost 4-3 to Manchester United in the FA Cup. Klopp missed out on his 300th competitive win with Liverpool in that match, a milestone he aims to achieve soon, especially since his team has only lost one of their last 56 home league games , winning 42 and drawing 13.

Brighton is likely feeling confident about potentially causing an upset, having won their last two games. Despite losing to Roma in the previous match, they managed to beat Nottingham Forest in their last league game. However, it’s worth noting that their recent wins have been at home, and they have struggled in away matches, losing five out of their last six games.

Head-to-head

Brighton have not lost to in their last four head-to-head matches against the reds, winning two and drawing two. Both teams played out a 2-2 draw earlier this season at the Amex Stadium.

Roberto Firmino scores to make it 2-2 during the Liverpool vs Brighton Premier League match at Anfield on October 1, 2022. The game ended 3-3.

Prediction

The result of Sunday’s match should not be the sole factor in determining whether De Zerbi will be considered for the Liverpool job. However, his poor track record away from home against top-half Premier League teams is concerning. Brighton has had success against Liverpool recently, but the timing of the break may benefit the hosts, who are predicted to temporarily rise to the top with a strong victory.
