Preview: Fulham vs Liverpool

Fulham vs Liverpool comes off on Sunday at the Craven Cottage at 3:30pm as Klopp’s men focus on their pursuit of Premier League success. Liverpool’s Europa League run was halted by Atalanta BC, while Fulham, led by Marco Silva, are coming off a notable 2-0 victory against West Ham United.

After suffering defeats against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United that put their season in jeopardy, Fulham bounced back with a 2-0 victory over West Ham. Marco Silva’s team is now in contention for a top-ten finish, which would mark their first consecutive top-half placements since the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. Fulham will need a strong finish to achieve this goal, but they have an advantage with three of their last five games being played at home. Their success at Craven Cottage, where they have earned 28 points compared to 14 on the road, is largely due to their solid defense that has only conceded 16 goals at home, a record surpassed only by the top three teams in the league.

One of the teams in contention for the title is Liverpool, who recently won a Europa League match against Atalanta but were eliminated from the competition. They have had a disappointing few weeks, including a loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The reds now faces a series of away games, with the opportunity to set a new record by scoring in 22 consecutive away league matches. While their main focus is on earning three points, they have a good track record against Fulham, having lost only one of their last 13 meetings.

Head-to-head

This upcoming match will mark the fourth time Fulham and Liverpool have faced off this season. Liverpool won 4-3 in their league match at Anfield in December, and also progressed from the League Cup semi-final with a 3-2 aggregate victory, winning 2-1 at home in January.

Prediction

Fulham has one of the best defensive records at home this season, with only Man City, Arsenal, and the reds themselves having a better record. They have conceded less than a goal per game on average in their last 15 matches at Craven Cottage. Silva’s team has challenged Klopp’s men in three matches this season. Liverpool has not scored from open play in over five hours, and even though Klopp can make several changes to counteract Europa League fatigue, it is likely that Fulham, who excel at home, will hold out for a draw to hinder Liverpool’s title hopes.
