Everton Boss Sean Dyche Urges Premier League to Abandon Winter Break

Everton manager, Sean Dyche, aged 52, suggested that the Premier League should eliminate its winter break in order to alleviate the congested fixture schedule during the festive period and reduce the advantage held by larger clubs with more extensive squads.

This weekend, there are no Premier League games due to the FA Cup third round being the main focus. Additionally, all clubs will have a mini winter break, with one of the two upcoming weekends off. Sean Dyche and Everton had a busy December, playing eight games in all competitions, but will only play a maximum of four games this month, starting with their FA Cup match against Crystal Palace later on Thursday.

“I don’t see the point of it when you’ve just had so many games in December. It’s not that beneficial,” Dyche told reporters on Wednesday.

“It would be better to lose one or two of these games in December and put them in there to spread it out. That’s a better scenario. It’s a more level playing field then. With more games, the big clubs are bound to gain because of their big squads.”

“But when you haven’t got a big squad, like us, and you get injuries, you’re bound to be stretched. If you put a couple of games in that break then it is more level across the season.”

“I’ll be surprised if that break doesn’t disappear, just from the scheduling.”
