Draymond Green suspended indefinitely for striking Nurkic

The NBA has suspended Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green indefinitely following his ejection from Tuesday’s game for hitting Phoenix center Jusuf Nurkic in the face.

During the third quarter of the Warriors’ 119-116 loss on the road, Nurkic was defending Draymond Green with his hand on Draymond Green’s hip. Green then swung around and hit Nurkic with his open hand, resulting in a ‘Flagrant Foul 2’ and his ejection from the game. The referees reviewed the video and determined that Green’s action constituted “unnecessary and excessive contact to the face.” The league considered Green’s past unsportsmanlike behavior and stated that he would need to fulfill specific league and team requirements before being allowed to play again.

Green had previously been suspended for five games in November due to an incident involving Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert.

A key player in the Warriors’ dynasty in the San Francisco Bay Area, Green has been instrumental in the team’s success as a four-time NBA champion and All Star. Known for his emotional leadership, quick tempo, and court vision, he has been crucial in creating scoring opportunities for sharpshooting guards Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

The Warriors, currently 11th in the Western Conference with a 10-13 record, are set to face the Clippers in Los Angeles on Thursday.
