Preview: Chelsea vs Leicester City

Chelsea vs Leicester City is scheduled for Sunday at 12:45pm at Stamford bridge as both sides will battle it out for a place at Wembley. The blues narrowly defeated Leeds United 3-2 in the previous round in the FA Cup, while Leicester City secured a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth in extra time.

After their recent defeat in the Carabao Cup final, Chelsea will aim to secure a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals by defeating Championship leaders Leicester City. Despite being unbeaten in their last three matches since the final loss to Liverpool, Chelsea’s performances have been unconvincing, conceding two goals in each game. Their defense has struggled, failing to keep a clean sheet in their last nine competitive matches. Mauricio Pochettino’s team has had inconsistent form, but they have a strong history in the FA Cup, reaching the semi-finals in five of the last seven seasons.

The Foxes are heading south amidst an intense battle for the Championship title. However, their recent struggle with only one win in five league games has given hope to their competitors. Despite being seen as underdogs in the upcoming game, their four consecutive victories on the road in this competition show their ability to perform well in FA Cup matches on opposing teams’ grounds. Nevertheless, playing at Stamford Bridge presents a greater challenge, especially considering Leicester’s poor track record in West London.

Head-to-head

The blues has a good record against Leicester in FA Cup matches, winning five of their last six encounters, with the only exception being the 2021 final. Leicester have only won one of their last 13 competitive away games against Chelsea, drawing 4 and losing 8.

Prediction

Although Leicester will likely compete against top teams next season, Maresca’s team is not as dominant as they used to be in the lower division. However, their current 13-game scoring streak away from home could benefit them in the short term. Leicester may only be able to hope for a consolation goal against Chelsea, who are strong at scoring goals at home and are favored to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
