Premier League: Burnley vs Liverpool Live

Preview

The second-ranked team will face the second-to-last team in a Premier League match on Boxing Day at Turf Moor, as Burnley hosts Liverpool in Lancashire. Vincent Kompany’s team boosted their fight for survival by surprisingly defeating Fulham 2-0 over the weekend, while Liverpool’s intense battle for the top spot against Arsenal resulted in a 1-1 draw.

After Fulham struggled to score in the first half of their match against Burnley at Craven Cottage, Kompany’s team took advantage of Fulham’s missed opportunities. Wilson Odobert scored a beautiful curler in the 47th minute, and then assisted Sander Berge 19 minutes later, resulting in Burnley’s third victory of the season.

This win ended their winless streak on the road since October 3, and moved them up from the bottom of the table. Burnley has earned seven of their 11 Premier League points in December, including a 5-0 win against Sheffield United. However, they returned to losing ways when Everton visited on December 16.

The highly-anticipated match between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield didn’t meet expectations, but spectators were treated to an intense battle between Liverpool and Arsenal on Saturday evening. Gabriel Magalhaes scored the quickest-ever Premier League goal for Arsenal at Anfield just four minutes into the game.

Despite this, Liverpool fought back with a goal from Mohamed Salah and were left frustrated by controversial officiating and their own missed opportunities. Liverpool ultimately secured a draw, moving back into second place in the table, while preventing Arsenal from extending their lead at the top. The match also extended Liverpool’s unbeaten streak to 11 games in the top-flight. The draw means that Liverpool could potentially move to the top of the table with a win at Turf Moor, depending on other results.

Head-to-head

Liverpool has not lost in their last three matches against Burnley, winning all three, including their most recent meeting earlier last year with a one-goal victory.

Prediction

Liverpool has won their last six Premier League Boxing Day matches and is expected to continue their winning streak at Turf Moor against Burnley. Despite Burnley’s recent away success, Liverpool should still come out on top. Kompany’s team should focus on exploiting Liverpool’s weakened left-hand side, and although Liverpool may not be in top form after their match against Arsenal, they should have enough to temporarily move to the top of the table.
